Aside from the turtles regular food you might want to try things like earthworms or redworms which you can find simply by digging in your backyard. King worms and meal worms may work too. As for flies if your turtle likes eating them why not, these types of turtles have a pretty wide variety of foods that they will eat.

I hear that flies can carry West Nile just like mosquito's...and that if a turtle (especially the African side neck kind) can get West Nile from eating flies. Then if you get bitten or scratched by your turtle then you can get the West Nile. So if i was you i would just kill the turtle now and get it over with. The turtle is going to die a long hard death.....

Flies are fine for turtles. Turtles are omnivores - they'll eat a lot of different things in the wild, like bugs, small fish, worms, and dark leafy greens like spinach or greens. Your particular kind is primarily carnivorous, so a variety of meaty stuff is good. Check here -> http://www.reptilekeeper.co.uk/eastafricanmudturtle.php for more info and specific suggestions.

Unless you poisoned the fly, it is fine.

With Side-necks, you need to experiment a little, but go to a good fish store and ask them for 'fish foods' like live or frozen/thawed fish, worms, insects, shrimp, etc.

Snails...like those giant ones you see in the yard after rain....It's amazing to watch...the turtle is slow, but the snail moves even more slowly....when she spots a snail, she doesn't hesitate to go for it no matter how huge, cracks the snail's housing- just like that...and then she feasts on it. Yup, it's my turtle's (Chippyjane) favorite.

Turtles know how to get their food. By nature, they are trained to hunt for it. Don't you worry.
