Because "we" are just carriers for our genes. Those mindless little molecules are the real reason we're around. Certain patterns of them have better carriers than other patterns, and those patterns with the better carriers live on while the others die out.
But we humans may have become too good as gene carriers. We've evolved enough sentience and intelligence to ponder things beyond matters of survival and reproduction. Indeed, we've evolved an ability that few if any other life forms have: to create our own meaning and purpose in life separate from survival or reproduction.
Life isn't "senseless" if you can create this meaning for yourself. Alas, we have not yet developed the technology for immortality, so for now this life of under a century is all you have. So make the best of it. Lead a rich, fulfilling, peaceful life in the manner that you see fit as being best. How exactly you do that is not something I or anyone can tell you, it's something you have to create or discover for yourself.
Note I said that we have _not_yet_ developed the technology for immortality. There are actually already some pretty amazing research results in the pipeline that promise to radically extend human lifetimes, and there is no theoretical reason why we can not eventually conquer both aging and disease.
The trick is, though, that if we want true immortality, we'll have to give up our inherently flawed biological forms for more sturdy and reliable artificial forms. (If god created man, he was a lousy engineer.) Of course, moving into artificial bodies would also mean abandoning our genes. Such a move would be a phenomenal step; we would finally have truly separated ourselves as individuals from the genes which were meant to be our raison d'etre. We would be true sentient beings, unshackled from being mere carriers for our genes.

If that's how it is, do you need the reason at all?
Must there be a reason at all? Just because you want / need to know does not necessary imply that there is an answer.
So why do you want to know, and is there another way to get to your goal without answering the same question? If you run into a dead end in a maze, would you turn around and look for another way or keep bumping your head trying to get pass it?
I could tell you "whatever you do in between is up to you."
That still means nothing unless you agree and act on it.
So I will say to you, the reason may be irrelevant.

to every beginning, must come an end. a start has always a finish, a birth must have death. no, it's not senseless at all. it's the circle of life. what's important is to leave a mark, something behind for you to be remembered. else, you're life in this world stays worthless and meaningless. to those who have known you, you're mere nothing if you can't even leave even a li'l joy, or sorrow for that matter, to anyone. you shall remain no one....
accept whatever is reality. do your best to live your life and enjoy your moments. eke out a memory of yore to those who shalt be left behind. at least, you shall be remembered...

written by an ancient roman gladiator: " i lived, i died, i am no more. that does not bother me". the meaning of life is what YOU make it out to be. i feel that the purpose of my life is to learn, learn till the day i die. its not what i did in life but how i learned to cope with life and and come out satisfied that i did ok.
