i'm partial to theodore roosevelt for a variety of reasons. he was conservative when he needed to be and progressive when it was appropriate. i respect his military record, his evolving consciousness, his dedication to the preservation of our natural resources, and his ability to think logically and derive solutions which benefited the whole and not just a particular group.
but that's just me.

Though Lincoln was the last good republican president I have to go with the first real president George Washington. He could have been a king or a dictator or god-emperor but he CHOOSE to be elected for a short term of office and then yield power to someone the people chose. Think about that for a minute. Would the Bushes have done that if it was up to them?

President Ronald Reagan, he broke the Soviet Union, not to mention the great days the Liberals celebrate during the Clinton years were due to Reagan also and thats a fact if they studied political science any.

The United States has had many great Presidents. In the modern era (since WWII), Ronald Regan was perhaps the greatest.
In the 20th Century, pre the modern era, FDR.
In the 19th Century, Lincoln.
In the 18th Century, Washington.
I think each of their achivements are obvious.
But let me assure you, all of our Presidents have been great men. Were they all perfect? No. Did they make mistakes? Yes, every single one of them. Yet, each and every one of them have contributed to our great nation. And don't let ANYONE tell you differently.

Hands down it has to be FDR. Nobody has done more. Fought WWII, save the nation from depression, and the only guy who has ever been elected to more than two terms in office. Plus he ended prohibition and that is good thing as well. Makes the weekends a little more fun.

FDR. I think he was a political genius. He knew what to do and what to say to steer the country in the right direction during hard times. And to me that is a huge part of leadership.
