While both types of handhelds are great, I prefer Palm handhelds (note: the name Pilot hasn't been used in over 5 years, since Palm lost a legal fight over the name Pilot). Palm is very well-known for its easy-to-use, yet powerful Personal Digital Assistants (PDA).

Palm uses its own operating system (with the exception of its Treo smartphone which also uses Windows Mobile) which is very easy to use, even for novices. PocketPC runs on Windows Mobile. If you are familiar with Windows, then you will be very familiar with the look-and-feel of PocketPC.

PocketPC does come with several Windows-based applications that you can easily sync with (such as with Outlook), while Palm offers connectivity through mostly third-party software.

Depending on your need, you may opt for one versus the other. I would go to a local computer store, and try a few with a salesperson helping you.

If you are looking for an easy-to-use, yet powerful handheld (PDA), with built-in WiFi, gorgeous large screen (so you can even watch your DVDs - with special software), I would look at the Palm Tungsten T/X:

Bottom line, I would suggest trying some handhelds at a store, and get a feel for ease-of-use, functionality, and "coolness" of the product. Good luck in your choice!

I prefer Palm, OS 5, OS 4 or less is outdated as Power Macs/Motorola Gx are to Macintosh users.

Extremely good and low-cost AV entertainment machine over Pocket PC; I have a beat up T3 so I can't say as business machine; though likely Pocket PC edges out little there. So Palm tops overall.

I prefer a Windows based pocket PC over Palm. All of the Palm devices I have played with, like the Treos, absolutely sucked. They would crash and reset themselves all the time. Plus, they are not as user friendly as the Windows based devices. I have used a lot of Windows based pocket PCs, most of which were phones, like the HTC TyTN or iMate K-jam. The Windows based devices tend to do more and have better processors than the Palm devices.

Pocket computer is 100X greater clever. Its honestly a miniature pc. using this, there's a abode windows browser and thus there are greater workplace, gaming, and downloadable classes. Palm doesnt even come close.
