The director was on a talk show recently and he said it was because we need to remember....and the families had a story to tell....so he said. I personally thought it was a bit soon.

It may help future generations to know what happend at 9/11 & would also act as tribue who faced or live this incident BRAVELY.
Ofcourse , not every director malking a 9/11 movie have this goal.
He may be having a PURE GOAL to encash on emotions of people, whether it could be iternal LOVE in TITANIC or tragedy like 9/11 or Pearl Harbour.

so people around the world will know of all the bad people in the world and try to learn from other peoples mistakes so it makes are contry stronger as a whole

same reason for vietnam movies or true survival movies. they know that there will be an audience for it. Look how much money that movie made opening weekend. Someone wanted to see it.
