Shouldn't you find a partner and/or be yourself as committed to life long relationship else if you cannot be 100% sure you both want each other thick and thin no matter what then not marry.

Yes, I did. I loved my husband completely and took my vows very very seriously. He said he did, too and I had every reason to believe he did. After 5 years of marriage, he went through a quasi "mid-life crisis" and left. I did not want to divorce, but when one spouse wants out . . .

Oh, I'm sure they do. However, I also believed that those who divorce, never really got to know their spouse like they should have prior to marriage. They look at marriage as the magical fairytale and then when they realize it's not that at all, they go running for the door. I just think that society has made is easy to walk away. Too easy, and since we leave in such a "feel good" world, everyone wants to feel good, so they take the out hoping for something better.

I don't think many people are thinking about the word 'sanctity' any more. I do think people are too quick to throw in the towel. There's a lot of selfishness in the world today. People tended to work on their marriages more in the past. Also, they considered it final. Marriage now seems more like 'going steady' used to be in school. If everything isn't going right and things aren't fun anymore, just break up. They don't care about staying power. Sanctity is more of a religious term and not as many people seem to be religious now.

Obviously some do and some don't. Even if you do believe in the sanctity of marriage there can still be some good reasons to leave eg.infidelity, abuse etc. Unfortunately relationships aren't always healthy. When you take vows you should always try to make it work....but let's face it sometimes you gotta go when you gotta go.

Sure. By divorcing, a couple preserves the sanctity of marriage by getting out of it.

There are a lot of reasons behind divorce...too many to generalize it to one statement like above.

I think that sometimes, even though they care, they are in a bad situation and need to get out of it.
