I came across some neat RPGs that look like they could be fun; Vampire: the Masquerade, Werewolf: The Apocalypse, and Changeling: The Dreaming. (Yeah, I know they’ve redone the World of Darkness games, but I can get the old books for cheaper, and more people will know how to play the older version.) I’m only somewhat familiar with the games, but I don’t know a thing about the game mechanics. I just want to find a group somewhere (not on-line) that I can play these games with and primarily make friends with. So, how the heck do I find a RPG group to join!?

You might try seeing if your local gaming store has a bulletin board or something. Or if they do anything like allow people to play board games in the store, you could hang out around there and see if anyone has a group. You should also see if any of your friends are interested... if you start a group, you can build it up as you go, or merge with another group later, that can be easier and more fun than trying to jump in on day 0 with a bunch of strangers.

Other games you might want to check out are Exalted (also by White Wolf, but less agnsty than Vampire), Rifts (sci-fi setting, done by Palladium Books. The concept and setting are fantastic, but the rule set is a bit iffy so watch out for munchkin players) or the old stand-by, D&D (even if the concepts are old, it can still be as fun as any other, and it's sometimes easier to find a DM or other experienced players).

Definitely the game store, as everyone else has said. If nothing else, ask the guy behind the counter; that guy always knows games going on.

For the record...from what I've been able to tell, there are still more people playing the older White Wolf games than the older ones (I run a V:tM game myself). Shouldn't be hard to find a group with older games. (Mage: the Ascension is my personal favorite of the White Wolf line, by the way, but also the most complex and insane...)

I'd stop at a local store where you'd buy that kind of stuff. I was passing by one of them one time and they were doing their thing inside the store. Good luck.
