When my mom died at home six years ago, we called the funeral home. She had terminal colo-rectal cancer and we had already made all of the funeral arrangements so after we called them, they took care of notifying the county coroner and the police department.

I'd hope by this time you would have found out what to do. In any case you would call 911 because after you explain the circumstances they would dispatch the the appropriate agency. Most times if the person who dies is a close relative or friend you would know personal info like what particular funeral home they wanted to go to. It's always best to deal with law enforcement first because they would call the coroner who would establish cause of death be it natural or otherwise.

If you knew they were going to die because they were under care you would call a Hospice service a number provided by your doctor. If you mean "Why send the Cavalry when the guy is already dead?" Unless you're a doctor, call 911 you never know what could be going on.

You call the police to report a death, and they call an ambulance, or coroner, to check things out.
If it is someone who died a natural death, that has to be determined by doctors, so the person would go to a hospital to get a doctor to pronnounce the death,, and then send the body to a mortuary of choice,, or where ever.

You still have to call 911 so that the police can write a report to keep you from being charged with a crime and to basically insure that no one can try to charge you with a crime and also it insure no laws are broken about the disposal of a human body.

Phone the ambulance - not 911 - use the number at the front of the phonebook. They can officially pronounce the person dead.

Call the police station and they will direct you properly or call the person's physician. Hope you are just wondering and don't have to deal with something.
