The sub-units of ribosome become assosciated during protein synthesis and become dissosciated after protein synthesis. This assosciation and dissosciation is controlled by the concentration of Mg ++ ions(magnesium).
These structural changes by magnesiun ions in rendered possible because ribosomes are membrane less organelles.
So,magnesium ions can easily act on ribosomes as they dont have a membrane.
