I know how to save video files from YouTube, ifilm, and other sites using the Video Downloader software extension with Firefox. But when I try to burn them to a blank dvd, my burner doesn't recognize it. I think it's because the files are saved as .flv files.

How do I burn them to a disc? Is there a way to save youtube video files as another extension like .mov or .wma? I want to burn music videos for my gf.

Here's a link that shows you how to save video from youtube if you don't know how to do it already.

First (to convert .flv to .avi):
http://www.lifehack.org/articles/lifehack/convert-flash-video-flv-to-avi-avi-or-mpeg-mpg.html

Then (to convert .avi to DVD format):
http://ww2.nero.com/enu/index.html

So, convert the .flv file. Use Nero to turn all the converted files into a DVD and burn it.

hmmmz, are youtube videos in some kind of flash format? You would have to get a converter that converts whatever .flv is into an .mpg or .avi or somethin'

I don't think it's possible, or atleast not very easy at all. YouTube uses streaming media in a flash movie. There is no file to download and convert. I've heard of programs that capture streaming media, but I'm skeptical about how successful they could be.

Hmm thats a tough one... You'd have to get FlashMX (or something similar), load the FLV video into that, then Save it As a .SWF file... after that, you can download an .SWF -to - .AVI converter (i've seen a few on Google).
