Why is it that everyone feels the need to be ahead or win. Yeah, it's great....but ummm, what am trying to say? hmm. Ok, on Yahoo Answers there are these points....everyone seems to care so much about the level they're on and the amount of points they can gather...why? Sure you can answer a few more questions a day...but I really don't think that's why people don't ask a questiong because they lose points or why people answer just for the points. See what I mean? Probably not! Why do people always have to be ahead...even if it absolutely mean NOTHING?! Is it just human nature? What do ya'll think?!

To win and be ahead is instilled upon us as children. Look back- good grades, winner in sports, and your parents bragging you up to their friends.
Don't you tell your old friends how great you are doing when you see them? You want them to think that you have succeeded, don't you?
Most people do, and if you don't then your a rare one and I would like to meet a friend like you.
Smile and keep thinking deep.
Dave

Everyone does not feel that way. For example...regarding the points, I choose to try and answer the best I can. I don't even know how many points I have at this moment. I just enjoy good conversation, sharing ideas and possible resources.

Thanks to all those out there who care to give answers for the good of the person asking the question.

Yes, it is human nature. We all need to feel important, worthwhile, have a purpose, in some way. For some, it is the points system. Some get their sense of importance from answering the questions, some from asking them.
Some people need to prove they are worthwhile to others, some, like me, need to prove it to themselves. And Answers is a great place to do that, for both kinds..
And winning is a way to get that self-worth. Some like that two points, they think: great! I've got 80,000 points now! I admit I am a little flattered when someone chooses me for best answer. I think, great! I helped someone!
I am one of those people who don't ask many questions, I just do not have a lot to ask. I prefer to give answers.I could care less aout the points, I do not even know how many I have.
I understand what you are saying, I get a little frustrated when someone answers a question with the answer "2 points!" I have said before that I am disappointed by this, I really would like to have heard that person's opinion.
This is a great place, I have learned a lot here.It is nice to make a connection with people. There are a lot of needy, lonely people here, if this place brings them a little joy, then well, go for it.
Thanks for asking this question, I enjoyed answering it. Keep on asking questions, and answering them, and maybe help vote on questions, that is my latest project. I got a best answer vote, and there were two answers, one was mine, I got one vote. So I am voting for answers, so someone else doesn't have to win with just one vote.

It is human nature for most. Competition, the need to be first or to have this or that before someone else. But I plan to stay at level 3, I have a life and feel no need to go any higher. But I did what U said and just answered question just so I could get to this level and get it over with. Dont have to worry about yahoo telling me to stop answering questions because my limit is up.

do you feel like that as well? my friend each one of us has our own characteristic in life... i love sharing my opinion with reagrds to yahoo answer.. i choose what i want to answer that the very essence that i'm not after the point... yes, some peolpe thinks that they could do better or always be in the lead but if you will and everybody will also think like that then nobody will ever be left behind... how i wish to see a marathon that everybody ( as in everybody ) will finish the race all at the same time.. Is that possible? why not.. the only think i can share with you is that never mind them.... just do anything you want to do with your very best... you set your own standard never mine the others at the end of the day when you have done your very best the sweetest of your success will always be appreciated by you..

in in our human nature to become and be competative.. Footy, cricket, soccor, tennis, yahoo answers, having the best house, best car (guys are competative at this) know what i mean. Its just a normal human process. Yahoo answers is more of a 'popular' contest. Getting known as the highest ranking points person is a goal for most on here. I actually dont care i just answer but in sports like swimming and tennis and gymnastics im a machine in being competative

I have to admit at first I was out to get the points then one day when I had reached my daily limit I went back and read some of the answers I had submitted. I had realized that in my haste I said what I considered to be something very cruel and offensive to what appeared to be a very sweet young lady. As a father of a daughter I felt very bad and deleted the answer. Now I only answer questions that I might contribute to in some way.

It's human nature. Everyone wants to score "points" with the World At Large...-This site is just another manifistation of that reality. I just like to answer some of the questions that interest me, and maybe "connect" with someone who thinks my answer is what they were looking for & helps them out alittle.

Guys are competitive b/c the society we live in has taken away our largest instinctual drive. Hunting for food. Since the industrial revolution men roles in society are becoming less defined, and we just want to be appreciated. so men look for gratification anywhere it is readily available. I wish you could at least buy little stuff w/ th epoints or something.
