Looking for recommendations on a good circular saw.. for general use around the house, home improvement projects, nothing really contractor grade. Don't know if cordless would have enough power. Looking for reliability/durability, ease of changing blades. Thanks.

18V cordless circular saws should have enough power for many home projects. DeWalt or Makita would be the best bet, but would cost more than a corded Skilsaw by the time you got a couple of batteries and a charger.

In either case be sure you get the proper handed saw. If you are right-handed you want the blade on the left side of the saw. This way you can see the line you are trying to cut. Left-handed would be opposite.

Don't do the cordless thing, I have been using cordless on job-sites and you end-up changing the battery too often. Get a Craftsman corded they are great for the uses you mention and they are generally fine tools.

Sears has a 7-1/4 inch Craftsman on sale right now, $49 for $39. It would be fine for the work you described. It has cut gearing which is better than powder metal that is sometimes used. Go to sears.com.

If you are going to do serious cutting go with a worm drive. In any case make sure its 2Hp.Saws wear out because they are used with dull blades so change often. As far as make I can't help much there I am still useing a 30 year old Craftsman (non worm)(no I don't change the blades enough) It has built 4 houses and I don't remember how many barns.(over 10)

I am very pleased with my Dewalt. Whatever brand you go with, make sure you get the bigger motor. It will make you saw perform so much better and it will always have the power you need to cut through whatever.
