I bought an small statue today. It's a "chinese dragon"(very thick body),with it's front, right paw on the head of a smaller creature.Does it's posture or having it's paw that way symbolize anything?

does it look part lion (body) part dragon (head)? is the paw on a smaller "cub" that is on it's back? if so..you've got 1 of 2 statues that were first displayed in the forbidden city in beijing (then there have been replicas eeeeeeeeverywhere). you've got the female version (which represents the empress)...the "cub" is a baby boy because that's what they desired most--an heir to the thrown. the other version is a male (the emperor) which looks very similar except the paw is on a ball which represents power......im not sure this is exactly what you've got but that's what i can think of. it would help if you showed a picture of it..

if it looks like this: http://www.bsu.edu/world2000/research/owens/2forbidcl.jpg
then it's what im talking about...

if it doesnt...sorry!

In most sculpture ever posture or position is carrying a meaning. I know this mostly from public sculptures of people on horseback and the positions of the various legs.

couldn't find more on wiki yet.
