I first came out to the woman I was madly in love with when I was 19. She inspired me to do it by being so damn attractive. The next person I came out to was my boyfriend at the time, when I broke up with him.
The parents were definitely the hardest though. That was almost a year later. Sometimes they come around and sometimes they don't...I hope your experience was a positive one and your mother embraced you as the person you truly are, even if she didn't agree. :-)

I came out to a guy I met online back when I was 15 (6 years ago) nothing I can call inspiring, I actually found out more about the whole scene and other people on my own and like that everything worked out and became familiar and I became more confident in who I was and what I wanted in my life! right now I am 80 percent out of the closet I still havent told the two most important people in my life, my parents. I know I should I am very sure of who I am but I know I have to wait for a perfect moment, I can also feel that is very soon! =D

I came out to my family during a surprise party that was thrown for me. I was turning 18 the next day, and thought that it would be a good way to start my adult life. Surprise!!!!, indeed. Great question. I really wasn't inspired by anyone, I just felt like it was the right time. I felt better afterward. Thanks for sparking the memory, hun.

Oh, *man*! How did she take that?
For me, it was when I was 15, after she'd assured me that I could talk to her about anything. She didn't mean liking girls, unfortunately.
