According to me the greatest upset in the sports history was India winning the World Cup in 1983 defeating the mighty
West Indies even after they were bundled out for a low score.

In 1982, Chaminade, then a member of the NAIA, defeated Virginia in what is considered the biggest upset in college basketball history. Virginia, which featured Ralph Sampson and Rick Carlisle, was the top-ranked team in Division I basketball entering the game after posting victories against Georgetown (with Patrick Ewing) and Phi Slamma Jamma of Houston. But in the Blaisdell Arena, the 3,500 fans in attendance - most of whom had come to see the #1 team - witnessed the historic 77-72 upset. Many newspapers reportedly checked sources several times to make sure the story was right - that 800-student NAIA Chaminade had actually defeated top-ranked Virginia.

1980 when Herb Brooks lead a group of College kids to beat the Soviet team. The famous Red Army. A team that did nothing but train to win, anything less then a win was an upset for them. Even a tie would have been a disgrace for them. They were the best players in the Soviet Union and were trained from a young age. They knew nothing but hockey. Some compare them to robots but I think they were even more mechanical then a robot. Herb Brooks trained these college kids to be winners. These kids didn't just train year round like the Russians. They had to go to classes and trained in their spare time in a sense. Add to it that they weren't training togther from the time they could play. One last thing to remember this WASN'T the medal game. Have seen so many think the U.S. the gold medal because they won. No this was the game to determine who would go to the Medal game. This is what sank the Soviets to a measly Bronze.

It's tough to pick just one. There are a few that come to mind, NC State beating Houston for the NCAA basketball title and the manner in which they did it was amazing. USA hockey team over Russia. If you will recall the US needed a morale boost at the time (i.e., I'm talking about the whole nation) and they pulled it off. LSU defeating No. 1 Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl. No one gave LSU a chance and if you knew anything about their Coach Charlie Mac, that was one heck of a victory. Of course, Broadway Joe zinging the Colts and he called the final score before the game was played 13-10.

Formula 1. Michelin decides to pull all cars equipped with it's tires off the track due to "wrong composition" or something around those lines. That took 16 out of the 20 cars on the racing grid. It pretty much guaranteed Ferrari a victory. The crowds were so furious they started throwing junk on the track. That my friend was the stupidest, and dumbest upset, in my opinion in sports history. However, I could probably come up with something worse, my brain however is in the "Shut Down" phase.

Cmon. Jets over Colts in SuperBowl III. The big victory made Joe Namath a household name. Colts were favored by 18. Jets won 16-7.
Miracle on Ice? The Russians pulled Tretiak - one of the best goalies in hockey history - and put in their no name backup? An example of idiot coaching, not a miracle.

i think of that it is while usa beat the Soviet Union in hockey. the yank team grow to be a team of faculty infants who never performed mutually earlier, mutually as the russians the place a team of veteran hockey gamers who've been enjoying mutually for an prolonged time. Plus the russians didnt lose a interest in like 7 years. no one expected the human beings to even make it to the medal rounds and all human beings expected the Soviets to win the gold however the human beings proved all human beings incorrect.
