the only suggestion i can think of for you, is to check the boards at your school. The boards are usually in the student center. There is bound to be somebody looking for a roomate. And if there isn't anything posted, then post your own addy that you are looking for a place to live.
Oh, and check the school's paper too.

craigslist.org is great. Also, try school bulletin boards, IE: University of Redlands, if not where ever you go to school. I would think that you will have to be someone's roommate for a while. If you have any friends, get together with a few other people and rent a big apt. For example, 4 people in a $1000/mo. apt. is $250/mo. But don't forget utilities. Also have a written agreement with everyone involved as to responsibilities, and privileges. Can you have overnight guests? Pets? Who washes the dishes? Who pays the cable bill? You get the idea. Have fun!!!

Look for roomates wanted but be very careful. Maybe section 8 housing where they just take 30% of what U earn. If U lived in W. Wisconsin where I do U could find many nice places around $300-400, but who wants to live here, I dont even want to be here, no, its beautiful. But I lived in LA in 1991 for a summer and our rent was $1,500 then for a OK 2 bedroom. Rent and gas is so high I dont know how U do it alone.

Check craigslist.org for your area. Someone might be looking for a roommate. You might consider working as a live in companion for an elderly person. You get the free room and in some cases you don't have to be there 24/7. Good luck.

Try contacting a local real estate agent. They will know everything there is to know about cheap and safe options. A really good website to browse local real estate/real estate agents is: http://www.realestateforsaleincalifornia.net
It's really easy to navigate and is full of info about realtors with links to their personal websites. Most of their websites will have all the available homes/rentals in the area along with community info, so you can do some research before you contact anyone. Hopefully that works for you. Good luck!

check out craigslist in your area. one might find an apt for $300.00 but anything is possible you might have to rent a room in someone' apt or home, or find a live in job taking care of a child or elderly person [these type of jobs give you free room and board [meaning food and other things] and a small salary..if you work outside you might find someone that will work with you about the hours they need you to be there good luck
