More then likely they will be using GSM. I don't think that GSM is going anywhere. It is also the technology used overseas. However I agree with you that CDMA is a better technology.

Alltell really isn't a major player in the cellular game - they piggy back and lease the technology from the bigger players.
Alltell, Verizon, Sprint/Nextel [which is more PCS then CDMA] won't be changing their technology to GSM anytime soon if ever. One of the biggest things I hear about CDMA is the sound quality is so much better then GSM. Which is fine but I prefer the flexibility of GSM because I like getting a new phone every 9 - 13 months. With a GSM phone all I have to do is buy an unlocked phone, charge it, insert my SIM card and power it up. Up and running in a few hours. Let's see you do that with Alltell, Verizon or the other CDMA carriers.

On a quick note: Sprint/Nextel SHOULD switch to GSM because their coverage S U C K S.

CDMA is more reliable than GSM, and CDMA networks have the high speeh internet capabilities that GSM networks don't have.

This puts pressure on GSM networks. Right now in the US CDMA is a stonger type of tech, and smaller cellular companies will want to take advantage of this tech.
