it is vasoconstriction-not dilation. dialate is to open, constrict to close. The body sends a signal to brain, and hypothalamus sends out neurotransmitter to constrict the arteries.

react to what damages...to the arteries themselves or elsewhere in the body??? If its to the body then the arteries will vaso-dialate to keep as much blodd as possible in the arteries to prevent blood-loss.

if you sever an artery you must tie it off to ristrict the flow just above the injury.
