How can you get your ad displayed on a search engine "in the top 10" and maintain it?

There are a many search engines that you can buy ads on. The three major players are google, yahoo and msn. This is a bigger question than you think. You cannot just buy an ad and then think this will convert into sales. Many things have to come into play. Your target audience, how much are you willing to pay for it, the wording (you only get about 10 words to do it in) and the most important part what key word or phrase best represents your product or service.

This is where it can get expensive, you could end up paying anywhere from .25 cents to $25 dollars per click. That means anytime a person clicks on your ad you pay that amount. You see, if it is not done properly you could spend hundreds of dollars a day if you are not careful.

There are other programs that cap a limit like mamma or exactseek.com but the traffic is really not there. View the different CPC (cost per click) search engines and see which suits your budget.

First of all, make sure you have a really solid and search-engine-friendly site. No Flash, good clear headings, relevant content, clear tags on the pages.

Make sure its registered with every major and minor search engine you can think of - this is a free process in most cases and will make sure you get on their radar. Also, register with http://dmoz.org/ . Every relevant third party link helps, so call in favours and get some free links.

Once you've got all that in place, start to try out buying keywords with the major search engines - you might find that Google works out quite expensive, and you may be able to generate sufficient traffic from a number fo smaller search engines combined.

Well only a hand full of site provide in-search advertisements. Most currently use Googles method of showing Sponsored links on the side of searchs. However, if you add your site to the Google AdWords program you will show up all over the place. This is because alot of "search engines" use Google as their engine.

Anyway, head over to https://adwords.google.com/ to sign up.
