My printer keeps printing test pages in the background of the pages I do want to print. As a result, I can't read anything I print because it's all covered up basically by the test pages' non-stop characters. I've tried deleting all print jobs, turning the printer on and off, pressing the power button to reset. Nothing's working. Help! Please don't answer this unless you know what you're talking about. Thanks.

You did not say if your printer is a ink jet or laser. My answer refers to laser printer. It sounds like your printer is ghosting images. There are a few things that cause this....and a few trouble shooting steps to go thru. First it may be the toner cartridge try a new one. If changing toner cartridge does not solve problem. The next thing would be a fuser problem....depending on the original price for your printer it might not be worth replacing the fuser. The next thing; I hate to say it; would be a bad mother board. Hopefully your printer is not very old and you can return it.

But you can always try deleting printer thru control panel and reinstalling first. This is always the easy first step in problem solving.

If you mean alignment test pages, do the following (For Alignment only) Please follow exactly and IN ORDER. 1. Turn off the printer and wait 10 seconds. Turn it on again 2. Let the printer print the test page. 3. After the test page is printed, disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer to your computer. DO NOT turn off the printer while disconnecting the USB cable. 4. Place the test page on the scanner glass and press the SCAN button on the printer. The ON light will flash as the page is being scanned. 5. Remove the test page when the ON light is steady. 6. Finally, turn off the printer and wait another 10 seconds. Then turn it on again. No more printing test pages! Yay! (You may now reconnect the printer to your computer via the USB cable.)

Try resetting the printer to factory specs from the control panel.
