It's because this generation is lost and hopeless. If people would eat vegetables, work out with weights, get better sex, and listen to TED NUGENT AT HIGH VOLUMES, they could be SAVED. But no, they won't do it.
The fact that you call it "lame sissy music" means that you are well on your way to ENLIGHTENMENT. You know the TRUTH! Keep listening to the ROCK. Turn off the MTV. EAT YOUR VEGGIES. You may yet SAVE THE WORLD.

AFI was supposedly more hardcore before they went commercial. I don't buy it. That guys a faaaag. No offense to gay people, but even YOU should be turned off by that guy.
Anyway. Perhaps it's time we told you. You see, the tooth fairy's not real and MTV sucks. It used to be cool waaaaay back in the day. I was born the year MTV came on the air. 1981. I slowly watched the decline of MTV. It started with questions like, "Why the hell are they playing tv shows? Ok...I guess liquid TV is pretty cool." Then it got worse, like the cancellation of the original headbangers ball and Yo! MTV Raps. Then more questions came... like..."What the F is singled out? Damn...who's Jenny McCarthy. I guess this is ok." Then the boiling point: "What the f---- is TRL and who the FUC- is Carson Daly! AHHHH!" In fact I remember when it was simply called MTV Live and Big Baby Jesus was on there bless his heart.
Then even more questions, "when are they going to play a video..." "why do they play the same video 64 days in a row?" "How come they never play an entire video?"
Of course by the time they had cancelled MTV Jams with the awful Bill Bellamy (previously the equally scary r&b singer who I can't remember) and the new "Yo!" was sucking it up on the regular I had to stop watching it.
Now I never see a video. Hardly ever. It's usually stupid high school kids wanting to be made and my most hated, "My Sweet 16". Someone needs to roll those b-tches in a carpet and throw them off a bridge!
......breathe.......
eMpTeeVee sucks. Didn't you know?

First off, if you think Panic at the Disco and AFI are PUNK, you don't know what punk is (only modern pop-punk crap, which isn't REAL punk, is whiny like that). But I agree that MTVs standards of music are lacking. Plus, they suck ***. My advice to you: give up on MTV.
It's the absolute WORST parts of pop culture, and I'm not very fond of the BEST parts of pop culture. It's an attempt to show us what's cool because we OBVIOUSLY can't determine for yourself what to wear and what to listen to. It's called "Music Television" and yet only plays music for one- or maybe two- hours out of the twenty four in a day- and then it only plays popular music that we all hear against our wills EVERY SINGLE DAY anyway. It gives the sheep of the population their identity, and that identity generally involves them giving it money.
We need a whole new channel. One with better music. Less commercialized music. Honestly, I've heard Panic at the Disco five million times, and I knew I didn't like them the first time. Now I want to hear something NEW...

Hey I like AFI and panic at the disco! How ever i don't like AFI's new albums as much as the older ones( Black sails) And I guess you would label them as emo and not rock . But emo is a relatively new categorization for music. Maybe MTV will get it someday but I seriously doubt it. MTV sucks.

MTV isn't even music television anymore. They should change their name to PTTV (pre-teen television). And the music awards should only have one category, because all the music sounds exactly the same.
Or maybe I'm just getting too old.

But honestly what category would you place it in? I know it's not hard rock, but it isn't really pop either. Don't get me wrong, I'm not disputing the fact that MTV sucks. They've sucked long and hard for awhile now.

Because MTV is a company. It provides a service and caters to the public.
General public says rock, it's rock.

because their's too many retarded and specific categories and sub categories in all genres of music to label them. who the **** cares man it's music. the only reason these "whiny punk" bands are succeeding is because their easy to swallow and even easier to sell. it's lame but what can you do? just enjoy your "hard and loud" music and turn off the tv.
