Every good girl loves the bad boy. He's reckless, debonaire, handsome. He takes no guff from anyone. He is the perfect choice for the pristine princess. She is headstrong==he is her match. He went toe to toe with her--he didn't care if she was a princess or not. She came across as the spoiled little rich girl who was used to getting her way and he didn't play that way. She totally was attracted to that. He didn't buy into her BS--and she liked that about him. He appreciated that she went toe to toe with him and wasn't afraid to tell it like it was. I loved that the two of them were into each other. The scene where Han was being frozen in Empire sums up their entire relationship.
Leia--I love you.
Han--I know.
Classic!!!!

He's quite charming when he wishes to be. Snarky, yes. But she can fire it right back. Second, she was a princess, a rebel leader, a...well, a symbol. And while she was resigned to Padme's fate, she had too much of Anakin's heart in her to really be as comfortable with it as she often pretended to be. Han never bought the "untouchable virgin princess" facade. It didn't impress him half as much as the idea of a smart, sexy, "shoots blasters AND insults with the best" woman and may have been the first guy to cross her path that was going to treat her as such. I'd reckon that Leia might have fround that a change of pace - to be seen as a person and not a symbol.
And Han may protest all the time he's no hero, but his actions say otherwise. He ditched a promising career in the Imperials to bust a Wookiee prisoner out. (That's how he met Chewbacca, IIRC). He calls it a "whim," but deep down? He admits later that seeing Chewie in chains bugged him, the last straw in seeing Imperial treatment of aliens. He charged into the Death Star right alongside the crazy farmboy on the rescue, and returned to save said farmboy by nailing a couple TIE fighters when he could have hauled **** from the fight. In ESB, that noble streak starts getting a bit more pronounced. (see the carbonite scene)
So, a guy who is noble, despite his protests to the contrary. A guy loyal to his friends, and who is willing to treat her as an equal - not put her on a pedestal. Not to mention that...wow, what a hottie. I can see the appeal...

George Lucas had to write the Leia/Solo romance into the original Star Wars, otherwise when Jedi came out and we found out the Luke and Leia were brother/sister, the movie going audience wasn't looking at each other screaming "incest"!!!

They're made for each other.
She has money, and he's broke all the time.
She has all the talent of the family (rich, the Force, attractive, intelligent, yada yada), and Han, well, he has a fast car.
She's his Brittney Spears to his K-Fed.

He is always after her, hitting on her and telling her that she is hot for him. In other words, she is in to the bad boy type and he is trying to convince her that he is a bad boy.
