Not to be scared. It could be many things don't worry I have seen many P.Cs do this for months every once in a while without any problems.

If it happens a lot or increases over time get it checked up. Overall don't be scared if you just hear it once or twice every few days or weeks.

Now what you might want to do if your P.C supports it is download and install EVEREST Ultimate Edition. It can check fan speed and PC temps and you might be able to tell if that is the problem. Whistling due to overheating is one of the most biggest cause of that problem. Normal the video card or Processor and heat sink fan area may make this noise.

It might take you a little bit to find out how to view the temps on the program but I highly suggest you get it. Its trial version should show you the temps it did for me. I use the program all the time.

Also of curse if you have an installed video card most of the newer ones come with a program that will show you its temps.

Normal PC temps. Depending on you PC , cooling system , room temp and what your doing on your PC these are normally what the temps should read.

Motherboard 33C-39C Idle. 38-48C under load.
CPU 29C-35C idle. 38C-51C under load.
GPU/Video card 48C-56C idle. 60C-77C under load.

Sometimes the temps might peak a little above these temps but much more above these could cause problems.

I have AOL and when a buddy comes online or leaves, their signature sound is heard. A whistle is one of the sounds some choose. If you have AOL too, it may be that.
