It depends. By the "Living Dead series," do you mean the four George Romero movies (Night, Dawn, Day and Land)?

Well, in general they do decompose. We can see that they are rotting (and in the Romero films, the odor is mentioned occasionally.) So they will eventually fail to function when they loose enough flesh and muscle. I don't know of many zombie movies where they get down to skeletons and still move.

But it would seem that they do not decompose at the same rate as a normal corpse. Apparently, the constant feeding regenerates their dead tissue. After all, what would be the point of them seeking out flesh if it didn't sustain them in some way.

PS: The guy that said this was a stupid question is an idiot. I make it my goal to answer at least one question a day just to piss off someone like him.

I've always wondered about that. In Dawn of the Dead, the creatures are "alive" and kicking well after four weeks. I'd think they'd have crumbled away by then.
