I would suspect that there is less honest information and discussion about birth control in conservative areas of the country. Apparently the abstinence lessons aren't working.

red states?

what type of map are you looking at... is it possibly a map showing the pregnancy rates of each state, by using different colors? lol

if that is the case, then the question is "why do some states have higher teen preg. rates than other states"...

because parents don't educate their kids anymore. Kids hear things at school andon the street, in movies... But they don't get the full picture of sex. I hear about 13 and 14 yr olds getting pregnant. At 13 I was playing with my Barbie dolls and thought boys were weird. Plus society makes it look cool to have short skirts and middrifts showing and cleavage hanging out. When I started wearing bras I hated having my bra strap to show. It embarrassing to let guys see it. I didn't even wear white shirts for 2 years because you could see the outline of my bra. Nowadays pieces of the bra are shown all the time. Plus parents don't talk to their kids about self-control and self-esteem. I'm sorry, but as a parent myself, I have to blame the parents, the adults in the media and in fashion magazines. We should be protecting our children and they learn more from what they see than what they hear.

Many of them likely have so-called "abstinence only" sex education programs. Because of this abstinence or nothing approach, teens in such programs are far more likely to have unprotected sex when they do decide to have sex and this, in turn, leads to increased teen pregnancy rates.
