you need to take time out of your day for yourself - do the things that you love to do. also, when you're doing this, avoid watching tv or going on the computer b/c those are stimulators - they stimulate your mind instead of relaxing it.
you might even want to try lying in a dark room for a little while, picturing relaxing things like a forest or the beach in your mind.
if you're getting too anxious, give yourself a way out of the situation. excuse yourself to the bathroom for a few minutes and just go and relax for a while if you're with a group of people. think relaxing thoughts and remember that your situation won't kill you - you'll come out ok.

it's tough to avoid anxiety really because we all have stressful things in our lives....but if it's a certain place...avoid it....or if you don't feel comfortable at certain restaurants...then find one you do and just go there and slowly try a different place every once and awhile...but i'm not exactly sure what you mean...like and example.....however if you have it bad and can't "talk yourself down"...then see your primary care MD or go to a clinic...there's lots of different medications nowadays to help you chill....

Eliminate the people and things that cause stress in your life. It isn't always easy but that is the only way to avoid it.
