BitTorrent is a protocole designed for large file transfer...
It acts like P2P [Peer-2-Peer] file sharring where the files are hosted by users through their internet connection...

There is no sharred folder that users have to share files, but a server that hosts .torrent files which contain all the information about the files you are to download.

Advantages and disadvantages over normal P2P programs:
Advantages:
- users can share complete folders and not just seperate files
- less threats of viruses through them when using reliable torrent hosts

Disadvantages:
- some torrent host servers are private and you have to register to be able to download
- some servers use something called ratios where your upload must not exceed your download by a lot for a long time or you will be banned
- once the torrent is dead (no one has the file as a sharred file) you can't get it again...its not just there in a sharred folder


It may sound that its disadvantages are more than its advantages, but, by all means, its a great thing...


Software to use:
- Azureus: is one ofthe most popular highly featured torrent client
rewuires JAVA to be installed to work
- µTorrent: Lightweight, single file program

Type "Bittorrent Clients" in Yahoo and you will get a good list
Choose the ones you prefer

first, download a client and install it. I prefer utorrent. Bitcomet is good also. After you download and install, go through the process to open a port on your router (if you use one. If youre on a school campus, chances are you cant.). Then find a tracker site (i use www.torrentspy.com), and look up what you want to dl. Then where it says Download torrent, click it and hit "open file." It should open in your client, and dl away.
