The website linked to above seems to have a good tutorial. I'd look through it and get as much out of it as I could.

Nothing replaces experience, though. I suggest you make a copy of the company's data in Excel and do some dry run tests on your own. In Word, you do Tools, Mail Merge and that starts a wizard you use to complete the Merge process. It works pretty well without much tutorial.

Try things with the copy of the data so you won't worry about changing it permanently. This confidence and lower worry level allows you to try things and learn things easier and faster.

Make notes and keep them filed when you come across the way you want it done and when you learn a tip that will help you. Then review the notes each time before you go to do a merge and you can become an expert in a matter of a week, I bet!

Mail Merge: Data stored in an Excel sheet with multiples of data, like names and addresses, Invoices, Checks and so on are merged into a Word document to make a letter, memo or report for each row of data, or subset of the data, if filters are used.

Examples are Addresses in excel are put on Mailing Labels
Addresses are used to print personalized form letters.
Invoices in Excel are used to print personalized thank yous for early payment using sentances like: Thank you for your early payment of Invoice number xxxxxx for $xxx.xx. on XX/XX/XX. Where the x's are filled in with data from excel. A letter with the personalized data from each row in Excel is created in Word so they can be printed.
