not so much invisible comfort as a place where your opinions are heard (or read in this case) and are taken to account unlike in real-life where you can't say anything you want and are restricted to certain topics by coworkers and friends. Also, it validates yourself in that you have a hand in changing something with your ideas, thus creating that addictive feeling that you feel and by that i mean you get a thrill when you pose a question or answer because of the effect it might have on someone somewhere who reads it, meaning you take a get a deal of pride in what you say and tend to revel in your success longer than others.

Can't, and won't, speak for others, but I'm not sure if I'm seeking comfort. Could be! I used to work, I'm retired now. I read and play some musical instruments. I know I'm bored with TV and most of the movies available and I've beaten most of my PS2 games.
I must admit I do enjoy reading the Q's&A's! In both cases, some make me think, others make me lmao. Some seem to be posted only for the sake of posting, but every once in a while, I see a Q or A that actually makes me un-comfortable! I'm both sadened and disturbed by what I read!
Some times I see a Q that I may have wanted an opinioned answer about but never got around to asking.
I feel it's more of a peek into a cross section of our civilization, our humanity, our species. Ppl on Y! A come from all walks of life, from all parts of the globe. I think it's more of a self-validation thing, not many ppl truly enjoy being alone, and Y! A gives us a kind of community, or allows us a world-sized village.
Comfort? Maybe. Maybe. Guess I can see that.

I don't know about invisible comfort, but I do enjoy the thoughtful questions posed and some of the studied answers- some of us do take the time to try to answer the questions with sincerity and thoughtfulness- I also enjoy it because it is a slice of true americana- every type of person from every walk of life from the youngest to the oldest can be found here cruising the avenues of cyberspace.
Sometimes though, I shudder at some of the questions, as they're sometimes just thoughtless drivel, and some of the answers can be just as bad-answers like "Nope", " Get a Life", and so on. I wish that others would take time to give a thoughtful answer instead of bashing someone else (who they can't see and who can't defend themselves). There is room for it all I suppose, but I sometimes wish that it would be used more for the forum for which it's creators intended- a place to find real answers to real questions.

This is my first time looking at the questions. When I came across your queston. I think we have the instinct to feel that we are not alone and seek answers from like minded people. It validates our need to feel connected in a big world. How many people do you really know. The rest of humanity are strangers. And with the current climate by the reactions of the big Powerful countries screaming daily terroists. We feel the need to know that not every one is out to hate us. Hmm maybe. Just an idea.
There are some strange answers to my way of thinking as there must be to you. We all seek answers in some shape or other. If we dont get the answer closer to home we seek further afield. And knowing that he response is from several people and not a book is more personal.

"Hello crashonme!
There's really no doubt you're right about the comfort thing. it appears that all those up into the 5's, 6's and 7's take a considerable amount of pride in providing the most intelligent, relevant and substantive answers in great numbers.
Of course, I feel the vice also. I participate.
I believe we all want to be someone we're not yet. It's our ideal behavior and response that we look to our egos for. Some just go to great lengths to move themselves up the ego ladder.
Freud determined the "Pleasure Principle." Most things we do on answers we derive pleasure from. Some enjoy more or less than others. Everybody knows what it takes to increase their numbers and there are always those who disclose themselves to acquire some knowledge they didn't have before about themselves. They are, sometimes, disappointed when they read truth out of the answers some provide. Sometimes it's tough love and it appears brutal. I sincerely hope those who get it can find growth from it."

Yes very true. I feel more comfortable when people (third party opinion- easy to accept) give solution for your asked question or you find answers for anasked question. Over the days you get addicted (best addiction).

Yes, most of the time people are looking for answer to their problems but they always forget one important factor. That is every problem is unique and every answer is apply to certain circumstances only and it is not apply across the board. So a lot of times when an answer is successfully applicable to one situation but not applicable to another. So ppl will start to grumble that the solution is not effective but they forget that the answer is only unique to certain circumstances only

Its entertainment. I don't come here looking for the meaning of life. It helps pass the time and it gives you good moments of clarity. This is a fun game that allows people to bounce ideas off one another while having a good time and collecting points.
If I didn't login tommorow I wouldn't miss it.
