should you go by the date the doctor gave you. or the date you know you concived?

I keep careful track of my cycles. I know when I've conceived. The doctor may have charts and ultrasounds, but I was the one who had the periods and the ovulatoin cycles. I would trust my dates over the doctor's.

If you know for sure when your last period was and have been keeping a close watch on your cycles, I would say trust what you know. If you haven't been keeping track, I would have to say go with what the doc says.

Either way is simply a guess. Doctors use their experience, training, data from ultrasounds, and other tests, in order to calculate a due date. The doctors use all of the accumulated data that they have to arrive at a “statistical” due date. The date that you "know" you conceived could be off by several days. Once again, the amount of time is a statistical average, compiled from centuries of data. That average is roughly 280 days, or 40 weeks. The date to begin counting is the first day of the expecting mother's last menstrual period. That leaves quite a bit of wiggle room, so if your doctor's date and your date differ by a week to ten days, that range of dates is when you should expect the arrival of the baby.

By the way, congratulations! =)

Good luck!

The dr. just gives you an estimate, if you know that you concived on that day then you can go by it, but it will be hard to change the dr.'s mind after he had picked a day for you.

I would go by the date you concieved, as long as you're positive that was the date.
I knew for sure with my first son as my husband was working out of town for 4 months previous to that and had only one weekend off and then was gone again for 2 weeks. The doctor gave me a date of April 1st or 2nd. I knew he was wrong, my son was born on the 12th.

in medicine, we usually have some formula how to compute ur due date. sometimes or lets just say most of the time, its different from ur computtion or even from the ultrasound. none of them are correct, they are just guidelines on how far are ur pregnancy. you should base ur due date from the first day of ur last period, -3 months, + 7 days. example ur last day is 8 - 15, subtract 3 months and add 7 dys. you will have 5 - 22 as ur due date.

in nursing school we were taught to count backward 3 months from the first day of your last period. Then add 7 days to that for an approx. due date.
For instance last period was June 1
go back 3 months=March 1
plus 7 days=March 8 due date.

The due date, regardless of when you conceived or what the doctor says is simply an estimate. The baby will come when he or she is ready :)

The day the doc. gave you, its the most reliable. They go by your last period and also the ultrasound and tell how the baby is growing. However you can have the baby two weeks befor or after is usually the average.

Go with the doctor. Nobody is usually right on, very rarely do you give birth on the day they specify, but it gives you a more accurate estimate of when to expect.

The date you know! Remember, they will tell you that they date they give you is not accurate anyway. You can go two weeks before and two weeks after! So, I would definitely go with what you know first!! Congrats
