Yes.
It wasn't until I was teaching and got frustrated on the playground one day, that this saying drifted through my head. I thought "that doesn't make any sense at all!" I know that's not the way to talk to young ladies or men.
I try to "catch 'em when they're being GOOD!" That's the time to comment on positive behavior, I believe...

I don't know a single kid that hasn't heard that at one time or another. Right up there with "Stop the crying before I come in there and really give you something to cry about."

Yes, when I told my aunt that I was going to wear a certain t-shirt to a concert. She told me I had another thing going. I did not get to go to that concert and was grounded for two weeks.
