there are two points there. i think you are mentioning just one of them, but in my experience they come together, always :)
- the person is "information" immune :)
- the person is irrational

the first issue is easy to treat, but not the second one.
for the second one, you have many technics, for reasoning with "irrational" people, in "negotiation" seminars.
any of these technics warranty success, but they are tools you can use. when you get to understand how think an irrational person, arguying with such a person, is just tricky, very similar to talking to a very little kid (age 3 to 6, egocentric period). be careful if the person has some kind of power. they do not have what we call "consciousness".

Usually reasoning with such people is not worthwhile. If they ever change their opinion, it'll more than likely be because of something they experienced that was significant enough to alter their opinions.

All of us believe what we do because it provides a high level of security to do so. Some people will not even consider alternative views if they can see that it may threaten their sense of security and identity. However "life happens", no?

Try to find a neutral source of the facts. Usually people won't listen to reason unless they see a certified journal or at least a magazine article backing up your argument. If you're arguing with someone about religion, you're better off sticking to the "it's all a matter of faith, and our faiths differ" strategy. They won't see the error of their ways then, but they'll probably accept the admission of mutual loss.

Scowl at them with disdain and roll your eyes a lot.

Eventually, they will feel a pang of doubt about their position because you will have made them feel
really stupid by openly admonishing their blatant refusal to see what is right in front of them.

If that doesn't work, try visine in their coffee.

It won't solve the problem but it sure will give them the runs,(again, another excellent oppurtunity to have a laugh at their expense.)

Make sure to open the door to the bathroom when they are in it and point and laugh at them if you get a chance too.

that's kind of fun..

You can't. They only see their side and will defend it to the death. And they WILL NOT listen to logical, reasonable discussions that say the opposite of what they believe.

THEY MAY BE SINCERELY WRONG...BUT ALL REASONING IS A MOOT POINT WHEN DEALING WITH SOMEONE WHO IS CONVINCED THAT THEY ARE RIGHT....AND DEALING WITH THEM OR WORSE YET LIVING WITH THEM IS LIKE LIVING NEAR A HUGE CEMENT BLOCK THAT HAS NO ENTRANCE POINT...DONT TRY

Show them that they were uninformed and then once they see it, give them the necessary insight.
