I feel for you. I had this BEFORE i even knew I was pregnant for the first time!!! I lived with it, but after I had my children (it never went away) I had to get massages and I saw a chiropractor. I was skeptical about this but it helped greatly!!! and ever since I haven't had a bad episode ( 5 years). I was told it would go away after I had my baby, but it never did.
Lay with pillows under your knees on your back when you sleep. this is a great help. also try laying on your back and bringing one knee to your chest, or as far as it will go while keeping the other straight and off the floor a couple inches.. the do other side. This can shift the back and relieve the nerve .

RE:
I am 10 1/2wks preg and I have terrible sciatica. The pain is awful and constant. Any ideas to get some relief
The doctors won't do an MRI because I am too early in my pregnancy. They are recommending physical therapy, but I can't sit down - making it impossible to drive to physical therapy. The only time I get relief is when I am laying down. I NEED HELP!!! I am at risk of losing my job because I...

I got it early in both pregnancies and went and got my back adjusted by a chiropractor (you could go to a D.O. too) . So much better! My home treatment was to lay on the floor, butt almost touching the sofa (bed. etc.) with my calves on the sofa (think reverse sitting). Then I put a tennis ball under my tailbone on the side that was out.
The explanation was that sciatica is caused when your tailbone floats against one side of your pelvic girdle instead of resting in the center. I guess this pushes on nerves. The adjustment and tennis ball help push it back center.
If you meet the criteria, you might be eligible for short term disability or FMLA until you are better. This would protect your job. I got better pretty quickly each time and didn't have further problems. Good luck!

I had the same thing and take it from me the ONLY thing that's gonna' help is pregnancy massage. At least once a week for at least 60min. I know it's expensive but the relief is well worth it. You have a LONG way to go and it'll only get worse if you don;t try to stop it now... also don't freak out but... my doctor gave me viciodn and I took it only sometimes when I couldn't sleep from the pain. It didn't hurt her at all and it gave me some relief.

I found that if I got down on my hands and knees and rocked gently back and forth, then stretched my arms forward I would get at least a measure of relief. Other than that, I used to lay on the side opposite the one bugging me for 10 -15 minutes then go for a walk around the block. My doc told me it was the baby sitting on the nerve and I had to try to get the little bugger to shift around so we could both relax. Good Luck.

sciatica is really painful and the only thing that can help u is therapy and steriod injection but both of them will not be done unless after you give birth. my advice is try to find a good chair or a comfortable chair in your school or try to lie down if ur home. try to put some warm compress on ur back, that will increase blood flow to the area and relieve some pain.

go to a chiropractor...i fortunately didn't get it until the 9th month and it was so bad my MD gave me a walker!!! but the ortho specialist said because I was at 36 weeks i could actually take 550 mg of Vicodin!! i freaked but the pain was so bad I did...he told me his wife had to take it too...but i didn't take it every 4-6 hrs like it said....but 1st thing in the morning to do all my bathroom duties and try to have some peace the 1st part of the day...and then i took one at night to just try and sleep...bad enough having sciatica but pregnant and not being able to sleep on my stomach was hell! obviously you have a ways until 36 weeks but i would do the chiropractor...my primary MD sent me to a woman chiropractor who was a "soft" one....and not knowing what that meant because i was knew to that stuff...my MD said that that's what they call the ones who go gentle especially on pregnant people as opposed to the ones that crack your neck and it makes a sound like it's breaking...yeck!!!...good luck oh and PS I have a beautiful little girl who is so damn smart!

When I got sciatica towards the end of my pregnancy, I went to see our chiropractor. He worked wonders! I would definitely recommend going to see one.
