The Hayabusa, Zx12, and Zx14 are all limited at 186mph. Stock, the Hayabusa and Zx-12 will both top out at 196 With the Speed Limited removed(bonneville box). The zx14 will top out a little higher. The Zx12 and busa have the same power output, the 14 is slightly higher? And personally, the Hayabusa is just ugly, as it has been ever since 1999, and it has never been changed!

I presently own a 2000 Hayabusa, my brother has a 2003 ZX12. I have wondered the same question as well. When the Busa was introduced in 1999 it was labeled the "fastest production motorcycle", shorly thereafter Kaw stepped up with its ZX12, which had very comparable power. Both of these bikes were capable of 196mph in PERFECT ENVIRONMENTS

In 2001 The Japanese Gov't(I believe it was) passed the Gentlemans Law which limited the bikes to 186mph (300kph). Since then there was really no such thing as a "fastest production motorcycle", just two badass machines set out to stomp on bikes in the quarter mile. Both bikes are capable of running high 9s to low 10s in the 1/4, depending on rider and track conditions.
The rumors people have started about the busa or 12 doing 220 stock are completely BS, as a general rule of thumb it takes 5hp to increase the speed by 1mph.
Oh, and before I forget, I am a service manager/technician at a local Suzuki/Kawasaki/Honda Dealership- We dyno bikes everyday and I see the most unexpected machines put out better dyno #s than my Busa. And for the record, My brothers ZX-12 which has a Akro full system, PC3, BMC filters, muzzy clutch, and is lowered, pulls a 9.5et in the quarter when my 00 Busa with a Yosh full system, PC3, lowered, pulls only a 9.7

Max Power 175 bhp @ 9800 rpm

here's a brief description of this very sweet baby..

The Suzuki GSX1300R, also known as the Hayabusa, is a hypersport motorcycle made by Suzuki. It has a 1299 cc inline-4 engine typically rated between 150 and 180 bhp (110 to 132 kW), and was consistently tested as the quickest and fastest production motorcycle in the world circa 2000 (see Cycleworld June 2000, Performance Bikes June 2000, Sportbike Magazine June 2000, Motorcyclist Magazine June 2000, Bikenet Online, Bike Magazine - UK, May 2000, and others around the world).

A stock Hayabusa (with a professional rider) will run a 9 second quarter mile with trap speeds approaching 145 mph. Many top speed enthusiasts modify the motorcycle with turbochargers, and turbocharged Hayabusas hold many top speed records, including the FIM 1350cc world record of 252.832 mph (406.894 km/h). This is the fastest timed average (two way) anywhere in the world for an open wheel motorcycle, and the fastest AMA US record for an open wheel bike. During the record pass the onboard GPS recorded 261 mph (420 km/h) as a top measured speed.

The name Hayabusa comes from the Japanese name for the Peregrine Falcon, known for its speed. Many also consider it something of a joke at the expense of the Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird, which was the fastest production motorcycle prior to the Hayabusa: the Peregrine Falcon is a predator of the common blackbird.

Subsequently, bikes were released to challenge the Hayabusa, including the BMW K1200S and the Kawasaki ZX-12R. However, due to the voluntarily imposed speed limiters, these models were unable to challenge the original 1999 Hayabusa's claim to the highest production motorcycle top speed in history.

Because that's what they're told, and most people don't know how to ride anyway. If you want to split hairs, though, the Hayabusa is fast because it has a smaller frontal area and better aerodynamics. Wind resistance plays a huge role in top speed!

Lighter weight only has an effect during acceleration, and there comes a point where any weight benefit is offset by the air resistance. On a bicycle this speed is about 13-15 mph, which is why time trial bikes are heavier but more aerodynamic.

The Hayabusa rules, period. OK....not period! Go ahead and thrash your ZX-** with 30 PSI of turbo pressure and see where the parts come out. Put some 0.028 nitrous jets into the foggers and see your number 3 main bearing fail. Yea the new Kaw has nice specs, but my past experience tells me it wont hold up under pressure.
I've watched Hayabusas set track records for the past few years, and have not seen any Kaws coming close. Hayabusas can handle big league power without a hiccup. So, there you have it, Bone stock, the Hayabusa is the one to watch, and when they're well built, there isn't another bike on the planet that comes close. BTW, Magazines LIE! Go to the race track and see for yourself who rules. Till then you're gonna be following some ugly Hayabusa tail feathers.

I am In agreement with nedragr77. You would be amazed at what some very unlikely bikes can do in the real world, and on a dyno if you shove enough dollars into them. The Busa, and the big Kawi, certainly are two of the fastest bikes around. Stock, because of the mentioned limitations imposed by the factories, and the insurance companies, and our dear old D.O.T., we may never have a bone stock bike faster than these two. However, if we can not make more H.P., we can make them lighter, just tell the MFGs how much you want to spend. Heck Honda builds private jets, so I am sure this technological behemoth can build as fast a bike as the law will allow. We have a mechanic whose Nox assisted Black Bird eats Bussas for breakfast. I have seen the dyno runs on big twins putting out 160 hp at the rear wheel, with tons of torque. The point is this, you can make any comparably sized and engineered go as fast as any other one. This is what makes the racing world go around. It all boils down to money, how much do you want to spend to go fast, how much liability insurance you can afford, and how much you can pay for tickets, and impounds. Also it boils down to YOU. There are not a lot of riders who can push a 600 class S.S. bike to it's limits, or launch a 150 + h.p. bike off the line with out going up in smoke. But one thing is certain, all this makes for some good racing, and conversation..

The gsxr 1300 hayabusa was the fast production bike on hte market for a while, but kawasaki countered with the zx14, but seeing as how the zx14 is new and not at all as popular as the busa, more ppl know of it and therefore more ppl now it as the fastest bike

I think until the production of the ZX14, the BUSA was the fastest street bike. And according to the magazines , I think the ZX14 only has a few more horsepower. My husband, brother & friend all own BUSAS and they ride em fast. Why change something when people keep buying it the way it is. What do I know? I am just a chick with a GSXR600 who does a pretty good job of keeping up with them!

I agree with Paul. I know you've had some exp. on the 1000, but a 1340cc inline is a LOT different. You know how to ride already, and if you are a safe rider, and not a throttle jockey, you will be able to handle the big B. They are very smooth bikes, and on that note, they are very easy to get over 100mph without even realizing you are going that fast. I have owned 2 Busa's, and I wont lie....it's VERY hard not to get into the power of one, just because they are so comfortable at high speeds as well as slower speeds. I would say go for it as long as you respect the power, and know your riding limits and abilities, because that's one bike that will take YOU for a ride if you are not cautious about what youre doing on it. They are in a class of their own, and a blast to ride.
