I read somewhere that black cohosh is not very good for the baby. I don't know what the truth is behind that, but I wouldn't be wanting to take any chances. Have you already tried everything else? The walking, having sex, nipple stimulation, eating turkey, etc?
Maybe your baby just isn't ready to come out yet. Or maybe the due date was off, or maybe there's something else going on.
At about 35 weeks, I started to efface, and at about 39 weeks, I was 70% effaced, 1-2 cm dialated, but there was no progress from there, and the baby hadn't dropped, and I had an ultrasound done at 9 days over, was going to be induced the next day, and we discovered that he was frank breech(something I had long suspected but the dr said she didn't think so), and face up, so if I would've put myself into labor like I wanted to try and do, my son might've had all sorts of problems, ranging from cord around the neck, to getting stuck in the birth canal, to being born with broken hips, to the cord being pinched off and he's deprived of oxygen.
After experiencing this, my best advice would be to let labor happen on it's own, because if it's not, there could be a reason why.

DO NOT USE COHOSH unless you are under the direct supervision of a caregiver who is experienced with this method of induction. There are potential risks to doing this and there are women who should not use cohosh at all! Black and blue cohosh are usually used together for the best effect...again ONLY UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF AN EXPERIENCED CAREGIVER.
Please be patient.....all babies do come out. Don't do something that could risk your health and your baby's health.

touch a doula on your section. they might assist you much extra... secondly, from my journey, and from what i've got study, and from what i understand because of the fact that being in training, BLACK cohosh does no longer something. BLUE cohosh is what you want. There are quite a few sources on the internet that have information. i think that maximum vials of the stuff have a dropper and back as quickly as we reported homeopathic remedies, it became one vial to juice, no extra effective than as quickly as each 4 hours. touch a community herb or organic and organic shop too...as you will extra effective than probable no longer locate it in WalMart. additionally, examine purple Raspberry LEAF tea..it must be leaves...you should purchase that at GNC, and it has a decrease risk of misusing it...it tones the uterus and can create smaller contractions for commencing hard artwork. do no longer TAKE ANY OF THIS AS DR. suggestion nonetheless...that's ultimate to communicate TO an entire DOULA AND YOUR OB earlier attempting ANY OF THIS! *edit, no longer one VIAL according to juice, one DROPPER!

I don't know about the black cohosh, but my Dr. told me when I was right at 39 weeks that I could try 2 oz of castor oil mixed with a couple of ounces of orange juice. HE recommended it so I guess it is safe. I had my son 12 hours after I took it. But...boy is it NASTY. Good luck.

I am 40 weeks today and I know how you feel. But if you haven't dialated any and your baby isn't ready taking that won't help. Do some searches on the web. You should be able to find somebody. But what might be okay for some may not be okay for you.

This is NOT something you want to take! It has shown to cause meconium stained fluid (i.e. when your 'water' breaks it can be green or brown instead of clear). Also, someone suggested taking castor oil...I've seen many women take this and come in contracting, but also spending a lot of time on the toilet and vomiting as well...again, not a good idea.

I would not take it unless your doctor approves. Some people react badly to certain herbs. Don't take the chance of making yourself ill this close to your delivery. I know it's hard waiting, but hang in there. Your doctor can induce you in a controlled environment, where you'd be monitored, if he/she feels it's necessary.
