They are called curb finders. I hardly ever see them on cars.

Bah! you yunguns they are CURB FEELERS
they make a grinding noise when you get close to the curb. I see them making a comeback with the 19-20" wheels and all the bling can get expensive to replace when you hit the curb and the 200.00 tires.

Gosh, I haven't seen any either in many years -- so many people answered, next time I go to the auto parts store, I'll ask for some.

The new little cars are so low, I wish someone invented something to feel/ or detect a high curb in front for when we park vertically -- so I can avoid scraping the paint under the front of the car.
