Topic ideas? Please HELP!?

I'm a college freshman. My american literature class just gave me my first assignment. You know that book Catcher In the Rye? I need to adopt Holden's voice and transport him into our time and make him comment on an issue of our world today. I was thinking myspace, but I think that will be too commonly used. Any other ideas?

I think Holden would be very upset about the war. You could change the story that Holden is leaving his prep school because one of his relatives was killed in Iraq. etc etc.

as a freshman -- make sure you take a deep breath once in a while and remain true to yourself. Don't fall into the 'drinking' games, etc. Take care of yourself and CALL your MOM!!! lol

haha maybe yahoo Q&A..he could set up an "anonymous" account and ask horrible questions w/o any recognition....continuously instigate while trying not to stand out...

if i were u, i'd set up a new yahoo email, and ask questions or post comments specifically like Holden Caulfield would say, either in his own words, or about new topics but in what u perceive to be his manner.....but online it's "anonymous". then u can see if people answer ur questions. u can also see if people try to report you, or delete ur questions...it'll show how society has or hasn't changed!! :)

What about modern TV and music? Compare what music used to be like and imagine what someone from that period would think of modern gangsta rap, for example.

You could also look at how race relations have (and have not) changed or how women's roles are different.
