...to go into the station and unload. while i was sitting there i saw a light. it was black and they are all around the station. i wanted to touch it. so i reached over and made contact with it. at the same instant i was shocked. i mean. electricity. tons of it. right through my finger into my body. it hurt like hell and my whole arm was numb for like 5 minutes. so my question is, why did i get shocked?

You either grounded out the circuit through your body or you completed a capacitance circuit. I would think the latter since your arm went numb. A capacitor discharge rate is relative to the resistance in the circuit. Sounds like you got hit by a relatively large one. Heres a hit, don't stick your fingers where they don't belong.
