It's doesn't, it's impossible for it to do that. How thick and how fast your hair grows is determined by genetics and running a razor over your legs can't change those genetics. It's even been studied!
"The resulting stubble only makes the hairs seem to be thicker, as a shaved hair has a blunt end as opposed to the tapered end of an unshaven hair, and because hair is often darker in color near the root. Clinical studies have demonstrated that shaving does not have an effect on hair growth rates or density."

Chiflada, you do not rest your case. Different people will have different hair thicknesses. Just your use of the word probably shows that you said is not a necessary fact, but a possibility. It still doesn't prove that hair grows back thicker after shaving.

Well said! I am a cosmetologist and no matter how I have tried to explain this very thing to people, they just don't want to believe it! I have also tried to explain to people that just because they got a perm once, it did not change the amount of natural curl of their hair, as this is determined by the shape of the follicle opening in their scalp and a perm WILL NOT change that.

I have had a shaved head for about ten years I were a shaver for about 20 the quick answer is not purely no yet heck no the reason behind it is that the hair seems thicker because it really is growing from a longtime root ... even as someone makes use of a cream like Nair the hair comes out root and all so the recent improve is a superb "infant" hair that comes from the floor those hairs are very nearly continuously white and they colour up as they develop. when you're searching to be rid of undesirable hair and also you shave it think ofyou've got that hair shaft to address. the great guess for this is cosmetics or in case you extremely like it to seem gone you'll purely ought to get it gone... through how the hair on correct of your head (and different strategic places you could wager what I advise) is on some extremely tender epidermis so the creams will be too harsh usually. in case you want some extra in this topic I were on a down with hair kick for a lengthy time period and that i'd be happy to help

I've had many lengthy discussions with people about the fact that shaving does not cause hair to grow back thicker, and they can't accept it because it's been spoon-fed to them their entire lives. Another good argument for this is that if you shave off all of the hair on your legs(for example) and it takes two weeks to grow back to the length it was before you shaved, you perceive it as thicker because you have no real point of comparison. Also, in certain spots(men's chins, armpits in general)the skin is so thin that when you shave off the hair, you take skin with it, thus exposing more of the root and making it APPEAR as though it is thicker. Another example of a spoon-fed lie that people refuse to give up-any form of religion, superiority of the race you are born as, stereotypes in general.

I'm glad you are here to get the message out.
You are absolutely right that shaving doens't increase hair growth in any way. The folicle can't get feedback on the shaft being cut off in any way.
It just seems like the hair comes back stronger.
If this really worked balding men would all shave their head to get their hair growth back.

I have been told that the angle a shaver cuts the hair at makes it seem like the hair is thicker.

Okay, if you shave your armpits let the hair grow. When it is long enough compare it to the thickness of your boyfriend/husband/some guy's armpit hair. I bet yours will be thicker than his. I rest my case. Stop shaving, best bet is laser hair removal. Expensive but worth every penny.

i actually remember reading a study somewhere that hair grows back lighter and thinner because it doesn't have time to grow as thick as it started out to be in the beginning.
