She's just beginning and going thru irregular periods. As you can probably guess, this is annoying. Is there anything she can take or do at this point (without seeing a doc just yet) that may help lessen the problems?

For all you sickos out there, this is a serious question and I do not appreciate dumb answers!

She does not have hot flashes or mood swings. She's just having light, irregualr annoying periods (if that what you can call them). It's just the beginning stages. we're talking, she just had it a couple weeks ago and now it started again but really light and hardly there.

I believe I read one answer that says something about vitamins. And I agree with that. Vitamins those especially formulated (Hormone balancing formula) really helps.

Here are a few other suggestions for easing the transition…

1. Add soy to your nutritional plan.
2. Eat a diet rich in leafy green vegetables as well as more fruits.
3. Get adequate amounts of daily exercise including
both cardiovascular exercise and resistance training.
(See more under Osteoporosis prevention)
4. Add vitamins and minerals to your daily diet. Calcium, Vitamin D
and Magnesium aid in strengthening your bones and
preventing Osteoporosis.

about the vitamins here's a site. visit it to learn more..

Lessen the problems, as in psychologically? For one thing if you could talk her into getting her hormone levels checked it could help if she is getting mood swings, hot flashes. Hormones have helped me, and I get a shot every month.
Since I had a hysterectomy about 12 years ago, I do not know about the skipped periods, mine disappeared altogether.
The main concern you should have is to support her as her friend. She will be probably at times blue due to the ending of her child bearing years and entering into a unknown new physical symptom of the aging process.

Eating a few pieces of candied ginger will calm the hot flashes and she should go see a Doctor. There are herbal medications that she can try-but most don't work.A good book to read is"Menopause for Dummies." It is filled with good info and ideas.

This is normal. It may take 1 -2 years to develop a regular period. A good diet and regular exercise will help most of all. Walking is terrific.

I have heard and my mother took 'Wild Yam' Cream. You rub it on your skin and it's suppose to help with the hormones. My mother had a bit of relief but at the same time she had a hystericomy, so it was a forced menopause.
