How much you earn doesn't make you successful at a job. Someone can be great at a job and earn minimum wage, whereas there are people who earn $100,000 a year, who are probably lazy and don't do their work well.

The rule of thumb USED TO BE: You are considered financially successful if you make $1,000.00 per year of age. In other words you were considered successful if you were 20 years old and earned 20K, or 50 years old and earned 50K. That is an old standard from when a $20 bill used to be a lot of money.
It depends a lot on where you live. Where I live, in Appalachian Ohio, if you make $12 an hour you're very well paid, but I talked to someone from New Jersey who said $12 an hour is what you make starting out on a many non-skilled jobs there. So there's no real answer for your question, it's subjective to a lot of factors. I hope you pick this as best answer. Thank you & Good Luck in your Success!

Depends on the job. A teacher might make 50 or 60k but they have not set out to be Donald Trump. A priest takes a vow of poverty. On the other hand someone like a Dentist will make $150k a year. But even that would be chicken feed compared to what a top executive at a large financial institute would make.
Spend some time on the bureau of labor statics site: http://stats.bls.gov/
Also spend some time on mysalary.com.
You need to look at what the average type of pay is for each industry.

Being successful at your job is not about money. It is about a feeling of accomplishment and a feeling of joy. I actually took a small pay cut when I changed jobs the last time. However, the benefits in terms of professional growth and pleasant working environment far outweigh the slight loss of pay.
I think you are successful in your job if you are anxious to get to work each day, feel like you have accomplished something good, and go home feeling good about yourself and your job.

Happy = Successful
Lots of people hate their jobs but make a lot of money. Make what you need doing something you enjoy with good people and you will have less stress. Stress can cause lots of health problems, it's just not worth it.
Remember you only have one life, live it.

I once heard a comedian (on radio) doing his thing
he said the basic rule of thumb, in business anyway, is to make at least your age, and if you have to wear a name tag, you probably chose the wrong profession
I have come to live by this

i'd say enough to be content and pay your bills and do a good honest day's work every day, and be satisfied in your own mind that you are happy doing whatever it is you do.
