At the time I read it I really enjoyed it. Chinua Achebe is an excellent author. The dual story of Okonkwo and also the destruction of a culture. Really all one story.

My views on it now might be different because I have since became a catholic. However, I don't know. I'm still able to appreciate certain things. Religion doesn't dictate culture.

My favorite parts were the description of the wrestling match and the drums before it. Where you would get so sucked into it your good friend could be right near you and you wouldn't even see them until the music had stopped.

That and ashy buttocks....

However, it's been like 5 years since I read that book. I lent it to someone and never got it back.

Although since then I read: Notes from the Hyena's Belly. That's a pretty damn good book as well. I like african literature....culture. We hear all this talk about the middle east, yet we never hear anything about Africa. I think there's far worse things going on there. I think it's a much more important place.

By Chinua Achebe? Yes i read it about two years ago. It was about Africa and the effects of colonization and Christian Missionaries. The colonizers thought that the village was backward and needed to be civilized but in effect was developed and structured. I didnt like it because of the way it ended- the way the main character died (and what it meant in his village) but hey i guess things fall apart.

I'm going to read Arrow of God know thanks for reminding me.
