Try a saltwater bath for half an hour, then add a bit of the salt into your tank. It will kill any infection and speed the healing of your fish. For the bath, use a tsp of salt for every gallon of water. Keep an eye on your eel for the half hour to make sure it isn't getting to stressed. For your tank, add one level tablespoon for every 5 gallons of water. An increase in the tank's temp. for a week will also help with the healing.

Do a partial water change 20-30%, and go to the pet store and buy some melafix or some antibiotics for fin rot. Is there anything sharp in the tank or something he could've got it stuck under? And don't believe everything pet store employees tell you, unfortunately a lot of them are inexperienced and give poor advice. Best bet is to go online and search out a forum.

if the fish you put in there are bettas chances are he didnt do it because i put them in with my tropical fish a couple times and they are always fine as long as its not more than one..if its fin is rotting it can be a disease called fin rot which can be treated but you have to do it asap..i would put stress coat in there because it relieves stress and helps fish repair...
