I believe that they are true... but I think that they mainly represent where the majority of the money is... which is in the top 10 percent... so if the numbers go up for the top 10 percent, the numbers go up overall...

the bottom 50% controls roughly 3% of the wealth, those peoples quality of life has decreased in all area's .. Inflation regardless of a constant media feed about the "robust" economy is up.. across the board costs are soaring, housing is down, people have borrowed heavily against the equity that they had, that to has bottomed out and the petrol dollar is in flux... I have had a reasonably good year personally, but then again I am a work a holic and put in 70 hours a week plus.. never see my kids and really can't say that I am any better off for it. I definitely am working harder for the same amount but not saving anymore... so personally, I'll be glad when we finally get an exit strategy to this war economy. It's good for the profiteers but it sucks for the private sector.
IMHO...

Well, overall I think the economy is going well. There seems to be a lot of business activity. Companies are expanding and growing. Looks like there are plenty of jobs for those willing to work.

On the negative side prices are metals are shooting up. Expect a 12% increase in the price of stainless steel within a few days and another 2.5% increase in about a month. I haven't heard anything on carbon steel. A slight increase would be an indication that demand is high, but this rate of price increase indicates to me that inflation is a problem. Someone is printed too much U.S. currency. Could be our government or could be the Iranians and North Koreans.

I'd say business is booming, but be wary of inflation.

I don't pay alot of attention to government statistics. Clinton was able to conceal a recession, and Bush covered for him. Who knows what's going on now. You shouldn't need government statistics, just pay attention when you shop or look for a job.

Ever since the current Administration tried to get fast food included into the manufacturing figures I take any statistic produced by the government with a grain of salt.

As for the economy, we're all feeling a pinch. Raises are low and inflation is much higher than we're led to believe.

Is the Economy Strong as Bush says or is it in the slump?
The answer depends on who is talking:
1- If you're from a wealthier household, If you have a job, your income is rising, your net worth is about as strong as it's ever been, then the economy is performing very well for you.
2- If you're a lower- or middle-income household... your incomes aren't rising -- certainly not as fast as inflation -- so your standard of living is falling. The economy then stinks for you.
I belong to #2...how about you?

From a business owner's viewpoint, I can say the economy has been in a slump for about two months now. The cost of fuel and increased interest cost is taking its toll.

I lost the majority of my retirement thanks to Clinton's incompetence. It's started to build up again now.

Government stats that Bill put out were lies so no, statistics can be manipulated to say whatever you want them to say.

If the Dem's say it is so bad, it must be good. Everything they say is BS, just to get them back in power.
