And not necessarily money, but even bartering was based on greed and desire for more. So, if there was no money, or bartering, or greed, would evil cease to exist?

A thought provoking question.

As I comprehend it, it's not money the root of all evil. It sure does trigger a person to go wrong and take a path that is not right. Money facilitates evil. But ultimately evil is within us because of the sin that we acquired from our ancestors through disobedience. As King David put it "In sin did my mother conceive me." Evil will cease to exist only if the sin within us is washed or purged. And this purging can only be done by our belief in a divine act of a great Man of God almost 2000 years ago from now. All it takes is belief. As the scripture says, "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life."

As long as there is sin is us, the evil will grow in leaps and bounds.

You see, first you got the sayign wrong, it's love of money is the root fo all evil TODAY. Understand that if we take away greed perid, we'd all die. If we didn't want to get more food, warmer clothes, etc.we'd eventually just die. Considering that money is just easy ot blame because our societies revolve around it so much that it's like blaming society or culture, just an easy way out. Believe what you will, but in my opinion evil comes out of peopel's needs, and people will always have needs, only how they settle them defines evil, and evil is pretty in perspective anyways...

Evil would exist no matter what. Money in itself is not evil; as the queote says, the LOVE of money, or rather, worshipping money over God, is the root of all evil. Face it, without money we could not function. But once you let money become more important to you than anything else, that's where the evil steps in.
