People who believe in freedom and equallity. Liberals also believe is science. If you have a problem the best thing to do is try and fix it. Unlike Republicans who think if you pray and talk to god every thing is going to be alright.

Justme gave a good quote... But this question is pretty ambiguous, and your not going to get a straight answer... Liberals will say smart people, conservatives will say idiots... That's what happens... But if your serious...
Left-Liberal, usually democrat
Right-Conservative, usually republican

A Liberal is a person who thinks there are other ways to do things than the way we have always been told. A Liberal doesn't necessarily want to conform to the standard old ways of doing things.
The weakness (and strength) of Liberals is that we believe that government owes its people more than just a Flag, an Army, or a set of laws.
We buy into that "pursuit of happiness" thing and we are willing (most of us) to challenge our own thinking about a subject.
So in short, most LIberals believe they are right about a thing, but open to other ideas. In contrast Conservatives know they are right and no amount of evidence to the contrary will change their minds.

What do our opponents mean when they apply to us the label "Liberal?" If by "Liberal" they mean, as they want people to believe, someone who is soft in his policies abroad, who is against local government, and who is unconcerned with the taxpayer's dollar, then … we are not that kind of "Liberal." But if by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people -- their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties -- someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal."

Most liberals are thinking compassionate people who look outside their immediate friends and family at the conditions of other people. They have empathy. They can be from all faiths , all races, all sexes.
They think , rather than just react or judge. They see the big picture rather than just the narrow road of their fundigelical churches or their big business profits.
Liberals actually usually walk their walk and talk their talk. They believe that government and all people have a resposibility to one another other, as Jesus said love your neighbour as your self .
Conservatives preach alot about their ' family' values and their faith, but when it comes to push , they only thing they're really interested in is themselves and as long as I got mine Jack ()*& you and the almighty dollar and the bottom line.

In the parlance of our times, a liberal is a euphemism for a socialist. It is ironic that 150 years ago, liberal meant someone who believed that freedom was the birthright of every human. Now, to be "liberal" is to be authoritarian. The typical liberal thinks that they are smarter and more virtuous than you, and is qualified to run your life.

Gotta go with Lizzy. Liberals are progressive, tolerant, forward-thinking, great with the economy, and sometimes very, very cute! ;o)
