I put mine in the ball about a half hour after she wakes up. That way she does her potty stuff in the cage, and then she is free in the ball for an hour or two or whatever. If I don't wait the time, then she inevitably pees in the ball, and that is just crud to deal with. Usually she'll find a corner and stop running and start grooming, and then I know she is done for the day/night.

THAT's NOT LONG ENOUGH!! usually, hamsters in the wild can run for miles in a night. u should pick up the ball after the first HOUR, put the open ball next to the opening of the cage, and see if they want to go in or not. if they don't go in, and they head for the opposite direction of the ball, then you kno that they still want to 'play'. after the first hour, do this every 30 minutes.

no thats too short. put tape on the lid and let him go until he stops & is just sitting---not cleaning or in an hour whichever comes first. after the hr give hima water/food break. if he wants back out he'll chew the bars to let u know. thats when i put mine in the ball--when she chews in the evening. or sometimes she chews when im up early so i let her run then. mine runs about 3 hrs---with breaks as i mentioned every hr or sooner if she stops.

Until his balls stop moving. This is hard to judge as they are quite small. I use a magnifying glass. Best of luck with the hamster balls.

Let him run as long as he wants - this is the only way he can get his exercise. Unfortunately, they're nocturnal, so he'll keep you awake!
