the 14th edition of the FIFA World Cup finals was held in ITALY. 24 teams from all over the world qualified for the finals.

WEST GERMANY won the 1990 FIFA World Cup for the 3rd time. they beat the previous champions ARGENTINA 1-0 in the final thru a penalty scored by Andres Brehme in the 85th minute.
Franz Beckenbauer was the first coach to win the World Cup as a player & the coach.
ITALY, the host nation finished third, beating ENGLAND 2-1 in the 3rd place match.

What a great cup! Great song! ("State Italiana") and I love the mascot: "CIAO". It was the first kind of inanimated object to be a mascot, but it was sooo perfect.
That was the first world cup I remember.
