Rivera could have went he only threw 14 pitches in the first inning, if he was worried about winning tomarrow it wouldnt have mattered if he would have won this game. I think is was a pretty dumb move what do you all think?

Rivera could have pitched in the second game of the doubleheader against the Tigers and got the side out

Rivera has been experiencing discomfort right above his elbow. With a good lead in the AL East, Torre wasn't about to chance Mo getting injured and possibly being out for the post season. It was a good move, I just don't understand why he didn't call on Farnsworth. Proctor came into the game with 7 blown saves. He has a track record of not being able to close successfully. Rivera had an MRI, there is no damage, just a slight muscle strain. He will be fine.

Rivera told Torre and Guidry he wouldn't be available for game 2. I have no idea why Farnsworth wasn't available, but he's spotty anyway. Sometimes he can blow people away, other times he gets rocked like Sunday at the Angels. Either way, Proctor blew it, so unfortunately the Yanks are only up 8.5 games. Oh well... there's another month of season left, and neither Boston or Toronto will catch them, so it's a moot point.

I still say Torre should get manager of the year. No other team could deal with the injuries that they have and not only be in the race, but be dominating it. Just look at Boston once they started getting hit by injuries.

Who cares? The Yankees have won the AL East, they're going to the playoffs, what difference does it make if they win one game against the Detroit Tigers? What's the use in tiring Rivera for a meaningless game? Torre is absolutey right to rest Rivera as much as possible. I'm sure all Yankees fans would rather see Rivera pitching at his best in October, than they would see him pitching for nothing in August.

No way, you can't risk burning out Mo's arm at this point in the season. Even though Proctor has been great this year, and much better than Farnsworth, I don't know why Farnsworth wasn't pitching the 9th. I don't know if Torre wanted to see how Proctor would do in the closers role for a day or if Farnsworth is still hurt, but it really doesn't matter, the AL East is all but wrapped up. Don't worry, in October Mo will be getting his 6 out saves as usual, and neither Proctor nor Farnsworth will throw an important pitch in the 8th.

No. Torre made the right decision.
Rivera still has a whole month of closing to worry about.
They can't risk throwing his arm out right now.
You win some, you lose some.
As long as my Yankees win more than they lose,
and win more than anyone else, it's all good.
: )
Go Yankees!!!!!!!!!!!!

Proctor pitched in both games. I truly don't think Torre would purposesly blow a game. After all, they're in danger of losing the East too. We still have a month of baseball left.

By the way, nice homer Monroe! See you Yanks tomorrow!

Torre put in Proctor because he could. So what if we lost the 2nd game, we're 8 games up, I don't see us going down anytime soon! Why not give Mariano a little more rest, for Petes sake the man has earned it!

It doesn't matter, because the Red Sox will beat the Yankees in the next series. The Red Sox are 'truely superior' against the Yankees (aka - The Evil Empire)! Go SOX!!!

He did the right thing, the game really didnt matter, no reason to burn out Rivera...if it were the playoffs he would of made a different choice.
