Almost right, Vette.
To get the 302 engine Chevy took a 283 crank and put it in a 327 block. Some people say Chevy put the crank in a 350 block but since 1967 was the first year for 350's and 302's and both used the 327 block it is better to say they used a 327 block. A 302, 327 and 350 block are exactly the same except for the number of main bolts which would depend on the application. The 302's had 4 bolt mains. In 1967 they are small journal blocks and in '68 and '69 they went to large journals. The reason for the Z28 was to compete in SCCA Trans-Am Challenge Series. The engine requirements to race in SCCA was limited to 305 cubic inches.
I would certainly use a ford 302 though; as you say, easier fit, less work, and the distributer isn't against the firewall.

I didn't know that Chevy made a 302 small block, I thought Ford was the only one. But since Ford did make the 302, that it was offered in their truck line, and you've beefed it up a bit, I'd say it would be enough for your '86 F-150.

Chevy made the 305 and 350,Ford made the 302 and 351,Now on a engine with only 305 cubic inches that HP level sounds kinda high even with alum. heads. What is done to the block?800 cfm carb is a lot on a stock 305 cubic inch engine. It dosen't sound like you have a very goog engine combo. What size cam is in it? Is it bored or stroked?
And that HP is ok for that type of truck but still kinda low to me

Enough to do what?
It will get you down the road with a little more ease than a six cylinder. It will not allow you to achieve orbital trajectory.
And Chevy did make a 302. It was the original Z28 motor.

OK LETS GET THIS STRAIGHT------SHEVY DID MAKE A 302. OK?
IT WAS IN THE 69 CAMARO FOR ONE YEAR AND YOU CAN REPLICATE THAT ENGINE WITH A 350 BLOCK AND A 265 CRANKSHAFT.
RESEARCH FIRST------THEN ANSWER.
YES IT WILL FIT BUT YOU WILL HAVE TO TRY TO FIND HEADERS TO CLEAR THE STEERING SHAFT AND THE FRAME.
PUT YOUR MONEY INTO A FORD 302 AND SAVE SOME TIME.
